ONC - OBAZU NATIONAL COUNCIL

ENDOWED By GOD'S GRACE, UNITY, AND LOVE

ONC is a non for profit organization helping people of Obazu in Imo State of Nigeria and beyond in Education, Roads, Water, and small scale business.

Obazu is the leading town in Mbieri. Obazu is made up of seven Kindreds viz.: Umueze, Umuchoke, Umuchimwiri, Amogwugwu, Obilubi, Umuneke and Umunkwo. Obazu has a common boundary with Orji, Umunjam, Eziome, Amulu, and Achi, by the south. By the North, Akabo, Amankuta and the Okitankwo stream. By the East Orji and by the West Orie Mbieri/Umuagwu. The landmass occupied by ObazuTis approximately two square miles with a population of about 20,000. These seven kindred’s hold themselves tenaciously to be one and indivisible unit. In Mbieri, Obazu has a certain characteristic behaviour sometimes peculiar to them.

The Obazu man is predominantly Anglican in faith. His soul is rooted in the Holy Trinity Church. The Church forms the base of faith of the Obazu people, young and old. It is true there are other places of worship like the Faith Tabernacle, Assemblies of God, The Apostolic and the Pentecostal Churches. To them Holy Trinity is the only place where God’s presence can be felt.

In time of emergency they react to situations in a particular way. They are never daunted. It is embedded at the back of their mind, be they great or small, young or old, that God has made them to excel others. How they come by this special pride, we cannot say. Obazu people think that only the best is good enough for them. They hold their heads high and do not feel inferior among other folk, be they rich or poor. There are certain things an average Obazu man will not d, whether or not he has

money to eat. The Obazu pride is that of self –satisfaction. He is not naughty, he is not arrogant, and he is not puffed up. He does not despise. He only thinks that he is a superior stock because and only because he is born of Obazu. No wonder he is known all over Nigeria as OBZ London. Why London. And who gave him that name? We can answer the first but not the second question. A londoner does not feel inferior before any other human being in the world. May be because of how he behaves and comports himself, his manner of dressing, his other folks in Mbieri gave him that name
